Speeding ticket turns into multiple charges

A St. Catharines woman faces multiple charges for fleeing police — after first giving an officer her license.Police allege Jessica Jeffrey, age 31, was going more than 30 km over the speed limit when she was stopped in Niagara Falls shortly after midnight Wednesday morning. Her license was then suspended for three days because she had been drinking — but after retrieving her cell phone to call for a ride, Jeffrey jumped back into her car and sped away at more than 140 km/h.Police didn’t pursue her very far — opting to leave a message on her voicemail rather than put the public at further risk.Jeffrey later surrendered to face charges of dangerous driving, fleeing police, driving under suspension, and several other traffic act offences, as well as failing to comply with probation orders.
