Candidates offered two how-to sessions

VALENCIA – Residents interested in running for local office – the Santa Clarita City Council or water or school boards – are invited to Candidate Academy at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and 19 at the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce. Candidate Academy is a nonpartisan event at which people interested in running for office will receive information and can ask questions. Among the highlights of the first day of the academy will be a presentation by City Clerk Sharon Dawson, who will discuss the logistics of preparing and filing the paperwork to run for office. Afterward, Scott Wilk will discuss how to form, market and promote a campaign. On the second day, lawyer Hunt Braly will discuss campaign financing. The session will conclude with a panel of elected officials and prior candidates who will discuss their experiences in running for office and answer questions.
