first_img1 Burnley players celebrate scoring against Charlton Burnley won the Championship title on Saturday afternoon as they thrashed Charlton 3-0 at the Valley.Sean Dyche’s side had already earned promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking as they beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 on Monday, but they sealed top spot by easing to victory in London.Sam Vokes, who grabbed the winning goal against QPR, notched the opener for the Clarets after 20 minutes, easing any pressure on the table-toppers.It was one-way traffic for the rest of the first half but it took until the 50th minute for Burnley to double their lead.George Boyd volleyed home at the back post from Andre Gray’s cross to make it 2-0, while just two minutes later they added a third with Gray scoring a goal of his own.Play was stopped on several occasions as Charlton fans protested against the way their club is being run.Several smoke bombs and a pitch invader delayed proceedings but the incidents could not dampen the mood of the Burnley players and supporters who will return to the top-flight next season.last_img
