ERA replanting 875 trees in Paola and Rabat uprooted by infrastructure works

first_img <a href=’;cb={random}’ target=’_blank’><img src=’;cb={random}&amp;n=ab2c8853&amp;ct0={clickurl_enc}’ border=’0′ alt=” /></a> SharePrint The Environmental Resources Authority says that almost 900 trees will be replanted as compensation for those being moved as part of infrastructure efforts in Paola and Rabat.Permits have been issued which will see the replacement of 875 trees on the roads; Vjal Santa Lucija, Paola and Triq Buqana in Rabat.In addition to the replanting, there is understood to be a €343,000 compensation payment being made towards the ERA’s Environment Fund.According to the permit (NP 0271/19 in January) for Vjal Santa Lucija, the following trees are set to be uprooted; nine nettle trees (Celtis australis), eight Italian cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), two almond trees (Prunus dulcis) and the uprooting and transplanting of five Judas trees (Cercis siliquatrum), three carob trees (Ceratonia siliqua), and one ficus tree (also known as Indian laurel, Ficus microphylla).150 of these replacement trees are expected to be planted during the first month of the planting season with evidence presented to ERA. The permit holder in this case would be responsible for their maintenance for a three year period.Regarding to (NP 0408/18 in July) Triq Buqana, Rabat, the road will see the transplanting of five Mediterranean dwarf fan palms (Chamaerops humilis), the heavy pruning and transplanting of one ficus tree (Ficus microcarpa), six bay laurels (Lauris nobilis), one white mulberry tree (Morus alba), eight myrtles (Myrtus communis), 16 olive trees (Olea europaea) and nine African tamarisks (Tamarix africana).This permit also sees the permit covers the removal of 39 Italian cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), 11 Aleppo pines (Pinus halepensis) and 29 sandarac gum trees (Tetraclinis articulata).WhatsApplast_img
