Sudan UN peacekeeping mission condemns killing of humanitarian aid worker

The UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) called on the Sudanese Government and the regional Government of Southern Sudan to expedite their joint efforts to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian workers.Both killings have been blamed on elements suspected of belonging to the rebel Ugandan group, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), which is based in Sudan, but has recently also moved into eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).The victim’s employer, Sweden’s International Aid Services non-governmental organization (NGO), said Collin Lee of Bermuda, accompanied by his pregnant wife, was in a vehicle driven by a Sudanese national when they were ambushed and he was shot in the chest and throat.At the end of last month, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan, Jan Pronk, condemned the killing of two de-miners from the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD), a company contracted by the UN World Food Programme (WFP).
