GARDAI RAID HOMES AS PART OF IRISH WATER PROPERTY INVESTIGATION

first_imgEXCLUSIVE: Gardai have raided two homes in Letterkenny as part of an investigation into the alleged theft of Irish Water property.A water meter.The searches took place on Friday morning last.It is understood that property was recovered but no arrests were made. It is believed that several water caps was amongst the property recovered.Responding to a request by Donegal Daily following claims by county councillor Michael Mac Giolla Easbuig, Garda Superintendent David Kelly confirmed an operation had taken place.“A report was made to Gardai about the alleged thefts of Irish Water Company property.“This matter is currently under investigation and as this investigation is ongoing, we cannot make any further comment at this stage.” Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig described the raids as “political policing.”“This is political policing at its worst. This is the Government using the Gardai to attempt to intimidate and frighten off opposition to the Water Tax.“We have seen this with the arrest of Paul Murphy TD and others in Dublin.“Our message to this Government is very simple – ‘You will not intimidate or frighten us who are organising against this unjust tax,” he aid.He called on those against the water charges to come to Letterkenny on April 25th where they can bin their bills.
